Farewell, 2014!

December 31, 2014

On the first day of 2014, I did this post where I made a list of stuff related to 2013. I’ll be making it a tradition of some sort just for a quick recap of how my 2014 went. It’s always fun (and a bit sad) to look back and reflect on what happened and remember the lessons you’ve learned or what made you happy. And I think it’s really good to share it with other people because maybe they need even a little ounce of motivation, too! Because it’s 2014, I’ll be specifying 14 things in each list!

Simple things I have accomplished which made 2014 fruitful

  • March for Graduation! Although we were already declared graduates for October 2013, I still wanted to experience the legit commencement exercises – and so I did!
  • I made the big move – from Legazpi to Manila. It took me time to adjust, but now I’m pretty okay with it!
  • First time I attended a Bloggers AssemblyΒ in Manila. It was nice to meet new people and finally see the awesome people behind FILED!
  • Got hired! The Lord has been so faithful with my prayers. I am nearing my sixth month in a company in Makati and I love my job.
  • Crossed out things from my 25 before 25 list! I’m really happy I get to tick things from it from time to time. I hope I get to cross more this 2015!
  • I met Lang Leav!!!
  • Didn’t change my mobile number for 2014! For people who’ve known me for years, this is an achievement for me because I actually change numbers often because of spam messages and stranger issues lol
  • Finally let go of things and people who have brought me so much pain. Some people think I am a coward for not fighting longer, but I think I’m otherwise. I’m brave enough to admit to myself that I should let go of things and people who bring pain that far outweigh happiness.
  • I completed an awesome and different challenge for a few months. I hope you guys have tried or will try this out! πŸ™‚
  • I cut my hair. From this long, it became as short as this.
  • Remember one of the items in my 2013 “Things I Didn’t“? Well, it’s under 2014’s Things I Did! I have now patched things up with some people I wanted to really be in touch with again. Thank God for the humility and courage! *answered prayer*
  • My blog turned three this year! *showers confetti*
  • I am hosting my grandest giveaway to date!
  • I have developed the habit of finding a way to fall in love more with life.

My 2014 should-have-beens

  • LOSE WEIGHT. I gained a lot when I moved to Manila. This is one big issue I have to act on 2015 if I don’t want to be obese.
  • Wasn’t able to finish my 2014 bucket list. I was only able to cross out 18 out of 25 items.
  • My “Read 15 books for 2014” goal in Goodreads wasn’t achieved. I srsly need to have my bookworm vibes back.
  • Wasn’t able to get the FILED Carrier Folder I’ve been wanting to buy for months now, but I just couldn’t (because priorities, priorities!!!).
  • Blog more often. I know I didn’t miss any month this year (unlike the other years). But I still feel guilty on not being able to post regularly. I hope (and pray) this changes next year.
  • Travel. I need to go some place new soon! Here’s to hoping 2015 will be an awesome year for travel!
  • Be consistent with my daily haiku challenge. This sucks. I was about to cross this out from my 25 before 25 list (Be consistent in a 365 day challenge) but because I was too swamped up with work, I wasn’t able to fully accomplish this. I’m hoping to finish this 2015, but I’ll be coming up with a different challenge to do.
  • Study how to do low poly art. I’ve been really fascinated with this since I saw someone upload a low poly art of Daenerys Targaryen in Westeros Philippines, a group I belong to on Facebook. I told myself I’ll try it out, but I wasn’t able to. Hopefully I’ll have the time this year.
  • Delete my Facebook and create a new one. I’ve been contemplating this for about a year now. I just want to start anew with my social life and actually filter the people I add. I have yet to make a final decision about this.
  • Get my laptop fixed. My laptop (for about three years) stopped functioning back in the first week of June and I still haven’t found time to get it fixed. I actually don’t know if I’ll still have it fixed, or just save for a new one instead.
  • Go on a social media hiatus again, like I did last year.
  • Avoid fast food. I managed to do this for a week, but I couldn’t go on. I should lessen fast food visits and eat healthy food instead.
  • Upgrade to iOS 8.1. Now this is something positive under this list. I know Apple claims to have released another update under 8.1 that fixes bugs in iPhone4s, but I still have no plans to update it.
  • Get over John Lloyd Cruz. #sorrynotsorry

Happy pills throughout the year

  • The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23Β β™‘
  • Listening to Lang Leav read Broken Hearts in person is just unexplainable!
  • Ted Mosby and Tracy Mcconell’s love story. Nuff said.
  • My Timehop flashbacks everyday make me laugh and cringe at how I was back then! LOL. Thank you, maturity, I now know how to react rightly!
  • Meet-ups with people I have lost contact with for a long time!
  • I celebrated my 22nd birthday!
  • Knowing God’s grace is sufficient and forever abounding is enough to help me get through the roughest of times.
  • I thank God always for His sovereignty. He carefully puts us in places, and beautifully invites people to our lives for special reasons we do not know of, but will eventually do us good.
  • I have the best bunch of friends both in high school and college, and the fact that we may not get to see each other always, but still find the way to communicate with each other, is reason enough to always thank God for friends who are for keeps.
  • My readers. I know I actually don’t have a lot, but the ones who randomly message me and tell me how they love reading my blog serve as motivation for me to never abandon writing.
  • I’ve realized that my relationship with my sister was actually strengthened when we were apart for the past months. I believe it has something to do with both of us learning to mature.
  • Clash of Clans never fails to make me happy!
  • Finally found the perfect app to help me manage my expenses
  • I am blessed to be friends with a lot of people who never forget.

2014 pabaon for a stronger and wiser Rej in 2015

  • People may think ill of me, but I always take pride in the fact that no matter how twisted stories may be, passed from one person to another, I wouldn’t care what they would think of me as long as I know what’s the real thing.
  • Earning your own money does not necessarily mean you can spend it without control. I learned to control myself from excessive and unnecessary spending this year – and I managed to start saving, too!
  • I’m keeping in mind to always do stuff, and not just say I’ll do them – but actually do them. As what my favorite Yoda said in Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back, “Do or do not, there is no try.”
  • Once you choose to let go of things, you’ll find that better things will come beautifully just when you need them to.
  • Only when faith is tried will it grow stronger.
  • Never promise anything when you’re happy, and don’t speak when you’re angry. Chances are, you’ll never do the former, and you’ll regret the latter.
  • Stop stalking. You’ll only get hurt.
  • At one point in your life, you’ll find yourself wishing you were able to meet someone sooner or earlier in your life because of your own reasons, but it is actually better to meet them after you’ve experienced a lot of things just so you could be more mature.
  • Sometimes it’s better to be mum about certain issues not because you’re afraid to speak up, but because you know better than to let your sentiments cloud your judgment.
  • You can’t please everybody. And having a beautiful face or a kind heart does not give you the immunity to be hurt by anybody.
  • Never be afraid to try. No matter how hard the risk is, or how much pain you could possible incur, never trying it out might turn out to be a regret.
  • People may laugh at you for not always conforming to what the world wants, but remember that it is never wrong to be different and be firm on what you stand for. People should respect your uniqueness.
  • It is never wrong to have faith so strong over someone changing. But when you’ve done all you can, and he/she does not appreciate it, or does not even make an effort to try to change for the better, you better think twice. It’s wiser to let go while you can, than be bound by something that’s not even real anymore.
  • No matter how hard life can be, God will always be there. No matter how painful a situation is, God will always be there. No matter how forsaken you feel, God will always be there. It is this truth that always keeps me going.

My 2014 was mainly about changes and decisions. I know the decisions I made are defining the way things are going with my life, but I trust that God will always be in control. I only have Him to praise and thank for because of all the good He has done with my life even when it felt otherwise. I started to make wise decisions and change for the better in 2014. I hope I could still carry that over 2015 and continue making better decisions. Thank you, 2014, for teaching me a lot of things. I will face 2015 braver and wiser than this year.I know you guys also had your share of reflecting on whatever happened this year and I hope by now you’ve set your goals for the next year. I know I’m already done with mine and I can’t wait to start working on ticking items off my 2015 bucket list, and getting things on my wish list! Here’s to a wonderful and fun-filled 2015!!! x
